Laughlin AFB TX Real Estate, Laughlin AFB area and Community Information
Located six miles east of Del Rio, Texas, Laughlin Air Force Base
is also an additional nine miles from the international bridge to Ciudad Acuna in Coahuila, Mexico. Known as the "the best little town on the border," Del Rio offers a large portion of the off base housing
for Laughlin. However, on site military housing is available
for those relocating to the area as well.
The city of Del Rio
began to be formally organized in the 1880s. However, Laughlin Air Force Base
is much more modern. Originally established in 1943 as Laughlin Army Air Field, after 2nd Lt. Jack Thomas Laughlin, the base closed at the end of World War II, but reopened under its current name in 1952. Fighter pilots came to the base for training. In 1962, U-2 aircraft stationed at Laughlin took pictures of missile sites in Cuba, an incident that led directly to the Cuban Missile Crisis. When people choose Laughlin AFB TX homes, they are selecting an area with unique historical significance.

where they can participate in a wealth of fascinating art and performance classes.
